For over 50 years for one week in July you can find the Greenwood family at Beach Haven on Orcas Island. And by the Greenwood family, I actually mean the Greenwood - Ayres - Hansen - Cline - Henning - Lucero - Turnbull family.
The sunsets at Orcas are always one of our favorite things. We will even plan our days around sunset so that we can eat our dinner on the deck and watch in amazement as the sky turns colors.
Some nights we find ourselves out in a kayak disrupting the stillness of the water so that we can become a part of the place where the sea meets the sky.
This particular sunset, my favorite sunset, included three Greenwoods (Kate, Chelsea and myself), two cameras and one flask of tequila (sorry mom). We took pictures, we giggled, and we listened to distant conversation and laughter echo off the Puget Sound from far off cabins. I will never forget how the sky turned from blue to purple to pink to orange as the sun set behind the San Juan Islands. It was breath taking.
