On Monday Kate, David and I all set out for the WA coast. It happened to be Kate's birthday so an adventure was in order. David and I stopped at PCC - one of my favorite grocery stores - picked up some coffee, a case of grapefruit La Croix, breakfast and snacks then set out for Tacoma to pick up the birthday girl. After we picked up Kate it was straight to the beach, a three hour drive away. We decided to visit the Tree of Life near Ruby Beach. This tree is amazing and honestly whatever I say about it won't do it justice so instead I will let the pictures tell the story.
When we arrived at the beach it was a beautiful day with blue skies and it was even warm. It only took about 20 minutes for the weather to take a turn and we left with damp hair, wet clothes and sticky faces from the mist coming off the ocean due to the wind. We quickly gathered our things and headed to the car to make our four hour drive back home.
Some people probably would consider this day a bust but it was actually quite the opposite. I got to spend a whole day with people I love dearly, see a horizon that doesn't end and taste and breath the ocean air - air that I need to experience every now and again. I am thankful that I get to call these people family and that I live in a place where I am sandwiched between the mountains and the ocean. I am thankful for these moments that make me feel so small yet so full.
